FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

Liverpool comfortable victors over Arsenal. All four goals combined Liverpool craft and Arsenal stupidity. Arsenal in a lot of trouble, particularly in defence. A three-man defence clearly isn't working. Wenger with plenty to think about even this early in the season. Klopp can afford to have a beer and relax tonight. A job well done.

17:49

91min: Salah goes close just as three minutes of added time are displayed. He has been Liverpool's best player today. A constant threat and who also got himself a goal.

17:45

87min: Liverpool quite happy now to keep their shape and a deep defensive line. Arsenal have no way back into this one and must now try to at least appear competitive for the last few minutes. Indeed, a free-kick comes in from Ozil but Giroud heads over.

17:41

84min: Final substitution for Liverpool. Can is replaced by Marko Grujic and gets a big hug as he comes off from Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge celebrates scoring his side's fourth goal
17:39

82min: Xhaka just about sums things up. He tries a totally hopeless effort from 30 yards that goes well over the bar.

17:34
GOAL: Sturridge 77min (Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal)

Salah, unsurprisingly, involved again. He whips a cross over from the left and Sturridge, who had only been on the pitch two minutes, heads in at the far post. Clinical stuff from an attack that has blown Arsenal away today.

17:34

77min: Even Holding's own team-mates are taking the ball off him now. He really hasn't had a good afternoon but he has been told to do something he isn't comfortable doing and asked to do it against Liverpool. It was always going to be a gamble.

17:32

75min: Sadio Mane is replaced by Daniel Sturridge. Another powerful performance by Mane, who also got his name on the scoresheet. He comes off to a standing ovation.

17:30

72min: Henderson goes down after being clattered into by Holding. One way of stopping a counter attack. Holding booked for his troubles.

17:28

71min: Nearly a fourth for Liverpool. Holding makes a poor mistake as he tries to control the ball. Mane goes clean through but Cech gets enough on the ball to stop it rolling into the back of his net. Meanwhile, Moreno goes down injured under a challenge and is yet to get up.

17:26

66min: Arsenal look so fragile at the back. Liverpool do have high quality attackers but they are being made to look world class. Wenger's men haven't moved together as one. So disjointed in defence and then it's a case of doing what can be done in attack.

17:22

63min: Wenger and Sanchez do not look happy. Wenger seems to have given up the ghost this afternoon while Sanchez is off and has his head in his hands. A desperate, desperate afternoon for Arsenal. Sanchez off for Giroud as Lacazette replaces Oxlade-Chamberlain.

17:14
GOAL: Salah 57min (Liverpool 3-0 Arsenal)

You thought Arsenal may have tightened their defensive line a little but it gets worse. Salah breaks the Arsenal line yet again after more slack defending. He had ample time to pick where he would put his shot as Cech tentatively moved out to close the angle.

17:12

55min: Monreal makes yet another mistake and Salah races down the right flank before moving into the box but his left-footed effort is easily saved by Cech.

17:10

54min: Liverpool free-kick about 20 yards out to the left. Salah and Henderson over the ball. Salah plays it in left-footed and Can's glancing header goes out, bizarrely, for a corner. Corner comes in from Henderson and eventually cleared by Holding.

17:08

51min: Karius again looks a little nervous but quite frankly Joel Matip should know better. The Liverpool defender played an awful pass to his goalkeeper and Karius, under pressure, nearly gifted Arsenal a way back into the game.

17:06

48min: Monreal has slotted in at left back and Bellerin has moved to a right full back position. Arsenal appear to have a little more stability than in the first half but it is early days. Ozil does, however, got into the book for a late challenge on Henderson.

17:03
Back underway at Anfield

One change for Arsenal at half-time as Liverpool get us started for the second half. Coquelin comes on for Ramsey as the Gunners go to a back four.

16:47
HT: Liverpool 2-0 Arsenal

Liverpool in full control at Anfield. Arsenal offering very, very little and are simply embarrassing in defence. Firmino and Mane took full advantage when required and Wenger looks furious as he walks down the tunnel.

16:45

45min: Two minutes of stoppage time

16:43

43min: Liverpool, just as they did when Firmino scored, aren't getting too excited. They've dropped their defensive line and now concentrating on retaining possession until half-time. Meanwhile, Xhaka goes into the book.

16:39
GOAL: Mane 40min (Liverpool 2-0 Arsenal)

Far too easy. Liverpool broke on the counter attack with pace and power. Firmino had Mane in front of him as he moved towards the Arsenal penalty area. He took a look up before passing to the feet of Mane who then cut back on to his right and bent the ball round Cech. Arsenal's defence, particularly Holding, static once again.

16:39

39min: Good defensive play by Wijnaldum. Welbeck and Sanchez had combined well before the Chilean got hold of the ball outside of the Liverpool area. Wijnaldum didn't fret, though. He pursued Sanchez and eventually left him with nowhere to turn before winning back possession.

16:36

37min: Offside. Liverpool with yet another pass through the middle that bypasses Koscielny and Monreal. Thankfully for the pair of them Salah had started his run a fraction too early and was offside as he collected the ball ahead of Cech.

16:34

35min: Koscielny and Xhaka both to blame there. Both attempted to backheel the ball towards Cech. Both downright stupid for trying with Mane buzzing about in the Arsenal penalty area.

Liverpool's players celebrate taking the lead on Sunday
16:32

33min: Welbeck seems to be the only willing runner Arsenal have at the moment. Even Sanchez has gone somewhat into hiding over on Arsenal's left flank. Henderson creates a small bit of a danger by playing in a lofted cross. The ball eventually falls to Mane after Oxlade-Chamberlain fails to clear but the forward's shot goes wide.

16:29

29min: Wijnaldum causing all sorts of danger for Arsenal's midfield. Ozil and Ramsey just aren't getting close to him. Xhaka hasn't been much use either. Liverpool quite content with keeping a high line and playing the ball around the Arsenal half. They're only conceding possession when passing forward.

16:25

25min: Salah weaves his way into the Arsenal box before cutting back on his left and getting his shot away. Fortunately for Cech it was tame and the Arsenal goalkeeper can make an easy save.

16:24

23min: Another booking for Liverpool. Joe Gomez is booked for shoving Ramsey to the ground on the Arsenal left wing. Gunners free-kick but it's cleared away well by goalkeeper Karius.

Liverpool's Roberto Firmino scores his side's first goal of the game
16:22

22min: Oxlade-Chamberlain makes his way into the Liverpool penalty area before his solo run breaks down. Another yellow is then dished out to Welbeck after appearing to catch Moreno late although the wing back made the most of it.

16:20

20min: Nearly a second goal for Liverpool. Arsenal far too relaxed, particularly after conceding a first goal. Ozil loses the ball before a through ball is eventually played to Henderson but he can't guide his shot past Cech. Meanwhile, Lovren goes into the book.

16:16
GOAL: Firmino 17min (Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal)

Superb from Joe Gomez. He won the ball back off Xhaka before finding space on the right and playing a cross in for Firmino to head past Cech. Liverpool deservedly lead. Arsenal still lacking organisation at the back.

16:16

15min: Sanchez back to his pesky self. Who knows what will happen in the near future regarding Sanchez. What can be said is that until he leaves Arsenal he will continue to cause opposition defences. Gomez and Matip struggling when he gets the ball on Arsenal's left.

16:14

13min: Mustafi doesn't look the happiest to be on the bench. Matter made somewhat worse when you consider Monreal is getting in ahead of him and has already made an error today.

Sky Sports
16:13

12min: Ramsey and Ozil getting bypassed in midfield by the pace of Can and Wijnaldum. Not known for their pace but they aren't half making the two Arsenal midfielders look slow. Quick one-twos are opening the Gunners up far too easily.

16:11

10min: Great chance for Liverpool. Emre Can found chance down the left and played a brilliant cross along the ground and through the six-yard box but Salah's shot at the far post is smothered by Karius. Superb by Can but perhaps Salah should have done better.

16:08

8min: Danny Welbeck close to putting Arsenal ahead. He got into a very good position after being played in. Joe Gomez did put pressure on him as he got one-on-one with Karius but he fluffed his lines and fell as he shot.

16:06

6min: If there is a weak link in the back three it has to be Monreal. He didn't return to his position there and Salah nearly catches him out just inside the Arsenal penalty area. In the end it's Koscielny who clears the danger with a header.

16:05

4min: Arsenal working the ball across their three-man central defence. Building a little confidence in a system that hasn't looked entirely comfortable so far this season. Koscielny organising Holding and Monreal reasonably well.

16:02

1min: Sanchez getting back and defending well in his first start of the season. You certainly can't question his attitude on the pitch. The Chilean races back to help out his defence as Mane looked to create a chance for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp on Mignolet's omission (via the Liverpool website)

'[It is] to rest him, that’s all. Four games in a very short term, for a goalkeeper especially.

'He didn’t want to rest, it’s not a problem. We spoke yesterday about it and I really thought it made sense, especially because we have the quality in behind.

'It is just because I want to let him have a rest after this really intense time with really good performances for us.

'But with the other boys, we wanted a situation like this; we wanted to have three strong goalkeepers. They’ve shown up in training, they are really ambitious, they want to have game time, they want to have games, so today Loris is starting.'

DOMINIC KING: Simon Mignolet has been surprisingly dropped from Liverpool's squad for Sunday afternoon's showdown with Arsenal as Jurgen Klopp has turned to Loris Karius.

The Belgium international has been left devastated by Klopp's decision, having not done anything in the opening weeks of the season to warrant losing his place.

Klopp had said before the start of the campaign that Mignolet was his No 1 but he has chosen this moment to elevate Karius, who endured an unhappy first season at Anfield following his £5million move from Mainz.
