Manchester City are preparing a £20million offer for Ben Gibson as their move for Jonny Evans stalls.
Pep Guardiola wants to sign one more centre back before the transfer window closes and had identified West Brom star Evans as the man he wants.
But persuading the Baggies to sell is proving a tough nut to crack and Gibson is emerging as a target for City.
Middlesbrough are determined to keep Ben Gibson but would prefer to sell to a top-four club
Middlesbrough seem determined to keep Gibson this summer having turned down two offers from WBA, the second in the region of £20m.
But City are now firmly in the running for Gibson as Tony Pulis stands firm on Evans.
It remains to be seen whether an offer in the region of £20million will be enough for Boro to part with Gibson; though the Riverside club, it is understood, would prefer to sell their prized-asset to a top-four club.
Middlesbrough captain Gibson scored in his side's 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday - the 24-year-old wore a facemask during the match as he continues his recovery from a broken nose suffered last month.
