Winston Reid committed his future to West Ham this week by signing a six-year contract that should see the defender to the end of his playing career.

But the New Zealand international's first match after putting pen to paper hasn't exactly gone to plan.

Reid had to be carried from the pitch at Southampton on a stretcher after suffering a calf injury during the warm-ups and had to be replaced in the starting line-up by Angelo Ogbonna.

29-year-old Reid, who joined the Hammers from Danish club Midtjylland back in 2010, committed his future until 2023.

But he looks set for a potential spell on the sidelines after picking up the knock ahead of kick-off at St Mary's.

Reid has made 204 appearances in his seven years with the London club, scoring 10 goals.
