Pape Souare back in full Crystal Palace training for the first time since the horror car crash which left him with two broken bones

Pape Souare has taken part in a full Crystal Palace training session for the first time since breaking two bones in a serious car crash in September 2016.

Palace released a video on Twitter showing Souare training with the rest of the squad, 11 months after breaking his thighbone and jaw in the incident on the M4.

The defender looked in good shape during the session - showing some neat touches on the ball as he took part in a training match and shared jokes with team-mates Andros Townsend and Jason Puncheon.

Souare had previously posted photos of himself training alone on social media but this is the first time he has been pictured in a full session with the squad since the car crash.

He later took to Twitter to thank fans for their support during his recovery, saying he felt blessed to be back in training.

'Feeling blessed to come back for my first training session with the first team,' Souare tweeted. 'I want to say thank you to all of you for your love and support on this journey! I read every message and hope to make you all happy soon'.

Speaking back in December, Souare admitted fears that he may never fully recover from the broken thighbone and broken jaw he sustained in the crash.

'I don’t know if I can get back to football or not,' he told BBC's World Service. 'The injury was very bad... I know I was very lucky'.

Souare had to be cut from the wreckage of his Mercedes and airlifted to hospital after the car ploughed into the central reservation of a stretch of the M4 motorway near Heathrow Airport.

It was initially believed he would spend just six months on the sidelines but he has been fighting to get back to full fitness for almost a year.

The Senegal international will now be hoping to make an impact under new Palace manager Frank de Boer - the Eagles begin their Premier League campaign with a home clash against newly-promoted Huddersfield on Saturday.

Souare last featured for Palace in their 1-1 Premier League draw against Bournemouth on August 27 2016 at Selhurst Park.
