That included cranking up the thermostat in mid-August before a defeat by Cork's former club Swansea.

'They put the heating up when we played them here last year! I was sweating in there,' the midfielder laughed.

'The season I was here on loan was the one after Sir Alex Ferguson complained that it was small, wasn't it?

'Maybe a lot of people in the Premier League aren't used to a stadium which is a bit slanted and the pitch is quite close to the stands.

'It is a tough place to go. The fans help and the players make it aggressive on the pitch. It's always had that reputation.'

The Clarets have moved into a new training ground this summer, a Ā£10.6m project which Sean Dyche described this week as a 'radical change'.Ā

'It's completely different,' Cork added when asked compare the facilities to his first loan spell in 2009. 'We used to get changed at the stadium, drive into training to do your work there.

'Then you'd drive back to the gym underneath one of the stands and eat in one of the boxes. The new facilities and pitches are quality - Premier League standard.'

Burnley were the sixth Football League club to take Cork on a temporary basis while he was at Chelsea and the 28-year-old defended the champions over their use of the loan system.

'I liked it. People said 'don't sign for them because you won't play' but that' s not necessarily the way it goes,' he said.

'Look at home many players have made it after signing for them and doing well through the loan system. You get a lot of opportunities at Championship or lower Premier League teams. It is tough but just a different way of doing things. It has worked. Not necessarily for their team but the individuals.'
