Shanghai may be experiencing a summer heatwave at the moment, but that did not stop Arsenal from continuing their pre-season preparations at the Yuanshen Stadium on Monday.

The Gunners have arrived in China following a short stay in Australia and are set to face European juggernauts Bayern Munch on Wednesday as part of the International Champions Cup.

And Arsene Wenger wasted no time in putting his players to the test as they took part in a training session in temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius before cooling off in specially adapted ice baths.

New signing Alexandre Lacazette was again strutting his stuff while star player Mesut Ozil also trained as speculation over his future with the club continues. The German is yet to sign a new contract and has just 11 months to run on his current deal.

They were joined by England internationals Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck, all of whom are likely to play a part against the Bundesliga champions.

Wednesday's fixture will take place in the 57,000-capacity Shanghai Stadium but anyone hoping to see their footballing heroes will themselves have to complete a feat of endurance with the forecast predicting the temperatures will rise further.

Hopefully, the likes of Walcott and Francis Coquelin will be able to take their wheelie bins to the match. The Arsenal stars were snapped using the bins as makeshift ice baths after training in an attempt to bring their body temperatures down.

There will be no relief from the heat after the tie against Bayern Munich either with another game against Premier League champions Chelsea set to follow soon after.

Arsenal will make the 800-mile journey to Beijing, which is also struggling with a heatwave, to play their London rivals in front of 80,000 spectators at the Bird's Nest Stadium on Saturday.
