Manchester United are on the crest of a wave following the signing of Romelu Lukaku but for some of their ex-players riding the real thing is proving a problem.

Former Red Devils quartet Denis Irwin, Bryan Robson, Mikael Silvestre and David May are following the current squad on their pre-season tour of America as ambassadors of the club.

And while the class of 2017 were busy training in Los Angeles on Monday, the quartet hit the city's famous Muscle Beach.

However, May did eventually get the hang of surfing - as was evident in this picture

Enjoying the warm weather, all four took part in surfing lessons by beginning on the beach before venturing out on water.

And while Irwin, Robson and Silvestre seemed at ease on their surfboards, the same couldn't be said for May.

The former central defender had a tough time tackling the surfboard - falling off it spectacularly in one sequence of shots.

However, the 47-year-old saw the funny side as he laughed about it afterwards before eventually getting the hang of it.

No matter his embarrassment, at the very least brighter days May be around the corner for his former club.
