Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea wishes his grandfather a happy 90th birthday before jetting off on pre-season tour to the United States

David de Gea is a man familiar with reaching milestones. The 26-year-old brought up his 250th appearance for Manchester United last season and is closing in on his 100th clean sheet for Jose Mourinho's side.

And on Friday the goalkeeper made sure to congratulate his grandfather as he reached one of his own - his 90th birthday.

De Gea uploaded a photograph on his Instagram alongside his relative with the caption: 'Grandparents should be eternal. Happy 90 Grandpa.'

De Gea's summer holidays will soon be over, with United set to jet off on their pre-season tour of the United States on Sunday.

During a two-and-a-half-week stay, Mourinho's side will play matches against the likes of LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake. They will also face rivals Manchester City in the first derby ever played abroad.

The 26-year-old had been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Real Madrid keen to bring him back to La Liga. But last month the La Liga side ended their interest in the Spain international.

Manager Jose Mourinho has been more pro-active, wasting no time in adding new players to his squad as they look ahead to a return to the Champions League.

£75million striker Romelu Lukaku is set to follow Victor Lindelof to Old Trafford as the Portuguese boss attempts to build on last season's sixth-place finish.

The Belgium international is set to join his new team-mates for the tour of the States, where they also face matches against Barcelona and Real Madrid.

His arrival could, however, hasten the departure of Wayne Rooney. The United captain has slid down the pecking order at Old Trafford and looks set for a return to his boyhood club Everton.
