Mkhiataryan spent part of his break holidaying with model Victoria Lopyreva and showed off United's new adidas kit on his comeback this week.

However, with Mkhitaryan appearing on the slightly larger side, the Manchester club decided to delete the tweet following the fans' reaction.

Many joked the player looked 'pregnant' while another said 'Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a good summer then'.

However, it is understood that the picture was actually taken before the end of last season, with Mkhitaryan in peak condition and that club officials have no concerns over his level of fitness, putting the picture down to a misleading angle

United supporters will be hopeful the 28-year-old will be fit and firing on all cylinders come the start of the campaign after shining last season following a difficult start.

Struggling for game-time though injury and failing to impress manager Jose Mourinho at first, the attacking midfielder soon caught the eye and scored in the Europa League final win over Ajax.

With a full season under his belt at Old Trafford, Mkhitaryan will be hoping to build on the 12 goals he scored in 44 appearances last term.
