Arsenal out of Kylian Mbappe race and switch attention to landing Alexandre Lacazette and Thomas Lemar

  • Arsenal accept the chances of signing Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe are slim
  • Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool are also interested in signing the young star
  • The Gunners are instead focusing on Alexandre Lacazette and Thomas Lemar

Arsenal are cooling their interest in No 1 target Kylian Mbappe to concentrate on alternative targets.

The teenager has been identified by manager Arsene Wenger as the club's priority signing this summer.

But the Gunners have accepted the chances of clinching a deal for the striker are slim.

Mbappe is one of the most sought-after players in world football, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool among the clubs after the scoring sensation.

The club's main focus now is to complete deals for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar.

Meanwhile, fitness coach Tony Colbert's role within Wenger's backroom team is unclear after he was shifted sideways as part of a coaching reshuffle.

As Sportsmail revealed earlier this year, Colbert's position was under threat as part of proposed changes to the club's coaching network.

Colbert is one of manager Wenger's long-term allies at the north London club.

And the long-serving coach, while keeping his job at the Emirates, has seen his position change significantly.

Sportsmail understands Colbert has been relieved of his duties as fitness coach and joined the club's technical team.

Colbert has played a lead role during daily training sessions under Wenger, but his level of involvement could now lessen in the new role.

The move comes after the appointment of former Liverpool head of fitness Darren Burgess.

The Australian will oversee the club's fitness and medical department.

Arsenal have also drafted in goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman to their backroom team. The 45-year-old will look after the Gunners' Under 23's.
