Manchester United target Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti while Chelsea chase £100m-rated Romelu Lukaku... but are they worth it?

  • Talks are said to be ongoing between Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea
  • Manchester United have turned attention to Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata
  • Torino star Andre Belotti is another forward attracting attention from United
  • Sportsmail assesses whether the summer's main transfer targets are worth it

Would you pay £100million for Romelu Lukaku? What about £70m for Andrea Belotti? Or £60m for Alvaro Morata?

The TV deal has had an impact on the Premier League - with cheques getting fatter as millions of pounds are thrown around.

Significant sums are being asked for strikers and here, Sportsmail decides whether some of those set to be on the move are worth it.

ROMELU LUKAKU

TIPPED TO COST: £100m

INTERESTED CLUB: Chelsea

As one supporter appropriately said: 'Did Dr Evil put this price tag on him?'

Lukaku is a talent but one worth breaking the world record transfer fee for? Everton are after £100m for their striker this summer and that could be a stumbling block.

The 24-year-old, who is represented by Mino Raiola, wants to leave Everton amid interest from his former employers Chelsea while Manchester United are also admirers.

Lukaku's preference is Chelsea, where he feels he has unfinished business. His attitude has been criticised before, however, and few fans would want their club to spend a tenth of a billion on him.

'Staying at Everton is no longer an option for next season,' said Lukaku, who has not been shy in speaking out about his situation all season.

Everton are in a strong position. Lukaku is contracted there until 2019 and know he wants out, which is why they've named their extortionate price. Talks with Chelsea are ongoing.

WORTH IT? No

SUPER STAT: In 2016-17 Romelu Lukaku (25) became the first Everton player since Gary Lineker (30) in 1985-86 to score 20+ league goals in a season.

ALVARO MORATA

TIPPED TO COST: £60m

INTERESTED CLUB: Manchester United

Here's another 24-year-old, though one who is tipped to cost £40m less than Lukaku.

Manchester United have turned their attention to Morata, who wants his future sorted in the next fortnight.

The Spain international impressed at Juventus – scoring 15 goals in 63 games in Serie A. He has done so at Madrid too – scoring 25 goals in 63 games in La Liga.

Morata wants more game-time next season, however, and Jose Mourinho wants a striker. United are after a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was officially released by the club on Friday.

Ibrahimovic could be handed another year's contract once fit again but the Premier League side are pushing forward with plans for a new goalscorer, and Morata seems a good fit.

Madrid want around £60m to let him leave and, in today's market, that isn't an unfair asking price for a player who has held his own in two countries so far.

WORTH IT? Yes

SUPER STAT: Alvaro Morata scored 15 goals from just 55 shots in La Liga last season (a 27.3% conversion rate) – the highest of any player to score 10+ goals.

ANDREA BELOTTI

TIPPED TO COST: £70m

INTERESTED CLUB: Manchester United

Another forward attracting attention from Manchester United.

Italy striker Andrea Belotti is 23-years-old and Chelsea were among those tracking him this season, as he scored 26 goals in 35 games in Serie A for Torino.

The Italian side are apparently ready to sell – for £70m. That is £10m more than Morata.

There is no question that Belotti is talented but that is a handsome price for a player who has only had one good season so far. In 2015-16, he only scored 12 goals in 35 games in Serie A. It would be a gamble.

Torino are in a strong position with Belotti, who is contracted until 2021. AC Milan are also admirers and it is that type of competition which can drive up a price of a player.

It's worth remembering what Torino president Urbano Cairo said in March: 'I still have the right to refuse all offers, or the player could decide not to leave even if there are offers above 100m euros (£86m).'

Belotti is not worth £86m, however, and £70m is questionable at best.

WORTH IT? No

SUPER STAT: Andrea Belotti scored 26 goals in Serie A last season; eight more than in his previous two seasons in the Italian top-flight.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ

TIPPED TO COST: £40m

INTERESTED CLUBS: Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester City

If Bayern Munich can sign Sanchez for £40m, then they will be laughing as they hand over that cheque to Arsenal.

Sanchez is a winner – one of the few Arsenal had last season as they fell short and finished fifth.

Arsene Wenger is hopeful they can agree an extension, with the 28-year-old's current contract expiring next summer, but it looks unlikely. He wants Champions League football and that isn't at Arsenal.

Chelsea and Manchester City are well reported to be in the running but Bayern look the best bet, with German media saying the European giants are ready to make Sanchez their top earner.

A wage of £350,000 a week has been mentioned – a fee which Arsenal would not able to match.

Sanchez, whose agent is Fernando Felicevich, is said to be happy to stay in the Premier League but the north London club would prefer to sell abroad if they have to. At £40m, he's well worth it.

WORTH IT? Yes

SUPER STAT: Alexis Sanchez took 101 games to reach 50 Premier League goals for the Gunners – the third fastest player to hit that milestone behind Thierry Henry and Ian Wright.

DIEGO COSTA

TIPPED TO COST: £80m

INTERESTED CLUBS: Tianjin Quanjian, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan

Without Diego Costa, Chelsea would likely not have won the Premier League. His 20 goals helped them to the top, though it's well known there were issues too.

Costa flirted with China then Atletico – going out of his way to tell media in mixed zones about his situation. In January he had a bust-up with Antonio Conte and was dropped for the trip to Leicester.

Now, he's been told he can leave by Antonio Conte, and Costa decided to go public with the message – a decision which could cost Chelsea millions as interested clubs now know they have to sell.

On top of that, Costa is understood to have taken a screenshot of his conversation with Conte and forwarded it to team-mates.

Costa causes trouble – but he also wins games and gets goals.

Chelsea will do well to get anywhere near the £76m that Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian were prepared to pay previously.

Now, with them desperate to do a deal and others aware of that, the fee is likely to fall from around £80m to as low as £40m.

Atletico Madrid have their hands tied until January due to their transfer ban so AC Milan are the frontrunners. Is he worth £40m? He can be a handful off the pitch, but also useful on it.

WORTH IT? Yes

SUPER STAT: Diego Costa's 20 goals last season won Chelsea 15 points – the most in the Premier League.
