Ajax midfielder David Neres was left stunned after Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney spoke to him following his side's Europa League final defeat by Jose Mourinho's side last month.
Neres came on as a second-half substitute for Kasper Dolberg as United cruised to a 2-0 win over the Dutch giants in Stockholm, but the Brazilian left an impression on United's all-time record goalscorer.
Rooney himself only featured in the final minute of the game at the Friends Arena, and having watched the 20-year-old try to drag Ajax back into the contest, the former Everton striker praised the youngster for his efforts.

Neres was left gobsmacked by Wayne Rooney's show of recognition at the end of the game
'Rooney knew my name! I couldn't imagine that. At the end of the game, he greeted me and said my name. I couldn't imagine,' Neres said on ESPN Brasil.
'I was a bit upset because we lost the game. Then he came, greeted me, said my name, I even forgot the defeat. [Paul] Pogba too, a few of Manchester's players.'
The pacey winger of Brazilian descent moved to Ajax from Sao Paulo at the start of the year for a reported €12million (around £10m), and he has scored three goals in eight appearances for the Eredivisie club.
Meanwhile, Sportsmail revealed on Thursday night that Rooney is giving serious consideration to seeing out the rest of his contract at United.
While Rooney will not make a final decision on his future until he returns from a family holiday — the transfer window here and in China opens at the start of July — it is understood the choice to stay at Old Trafford is becoming increasingly attractive.

A return to Everton is looking unlikely, not least because any interest from the Goodison Park club does not extend to going anywhere close to matching Rooney's current £250,000-a-week wage.
Talk of possible offers from China is also thought to lack serious substance, despite the mega-money which seems to be available for players to switch to their league.
Moving to China with a young family is said to be something Rooney does not exactly relish and his wife, Coleen, is understood to be even more reluctant.
