Mesut Ozil disappears for Arsenal, Sidwell chants with inflatable guitar and penguins take over Etihad: Eight things you missed from Man City's win

Arsenal collapsed against Pep Guadiola's Manchester City side in the second half as the host fought back to win 2-1.

As always, the television cameras covered every blade of grass but Sportsmail is on hand to cover the things you might have missed.

This week there are some absolute Christmas crackers, including Steve Sidwell chanting with an inflatable guitar and penguins outside the Etihad.

Did Kevin de Bruyne provide the assist of the season for Raheem Sterling's goal?

Steve Sidwell leads hearty Arsenal chant

Standing on a stool, conducting his merry orchestra, Steve Sidwell was filmed chanting his support for Arsenal at Yates's in Manchester city centre.

The Brighton midfielder and former Arsenal youngster was spurred on by calls of 'Sidwell is a Gooner' before taking to his feet, hushing the crowd and leading the chorus.

Oh, and he was holding an inflatable guitar. Words simply cannot do it justice so here's the video..

Pre-game penguins

Yes ladies and gents, those are penguins. Far from content with the occasional air time on Planet Earth, these adorable creatures entertained fans milling around before the match.

A couple of footballs were thrown in the enclosure for good measure but truth be told these were not the most technically gifted animals.

Severely hampered by webbed feet, and well, by being a penguin, would Pep Guardiola still instruct them to play out from the back?

If you're picking a polar XI, these are getting nowhere near the starting line-up. Flightless birds? About as useful as Willy Caballero's hairdresser.

Petr Cech hits career-worst streak

The Arsenal goalkeeper has conceded at least one goal in each of his last eight Premier League matches.

This is the longest run without a league clean sheet in his career. The veteran shot-stopper was dealt the unwanted record as Leroy Sane slotted home early in the second half.

Where's Ozil?

Plenty of Arsenal fans took to social media asking where their playmaker had gone.

The German appeared to be a scapegoat for his side's second-half collapse among supporters online.

It is a criticism often levelled at the former Real Madrid man that he can disappear for significant spells and this match was no different.

Cech also Arsenal's most prolific passer

With 15 minutes remaining, the man in Arsene Wenger's side with the highest number of attempted passes was his goalkeeper.

If there was ever a stat to tell the story, the fact that Cech played more balls than his side's playmakers is damning.

Assist of the season?

Kevin de Bruyne's blind, half-volleyed pass to Raheem Sterling for the second goal was astonishing.

The Beglian collected a throw in on his chest before adjusting his body and smacking a raking ball into space down the right for the winger.

Sterling's wonderful run and finish turned it into an assist but in truth that pass deserved to be followed up with such conviction.

Is it nearly Christmas?

For some people Christmas is a time for giving, for carols, stockings and mulled wine. For others it is time to wear pretend antlers to an Arsenal match.

Both sets of fans delivered spectacularly with an assortment of questionable festive gear.

Forget the nativity, tis the season to don jumpers that are simply unacceptable in any other month.

Christmas pudding wins dramatic mascot race

If you've ever wondered whether a Christmas pudding could beat Frosty the Snowman in a sprint, you are not alone.

Half-time provided the answer to this age old question with Frosty beaten in dramatic fashion.

Christmas pud, hampered by a ludicrously top-heavy costume, overbalanced but tumbled over the line in first place with Frosty served his just desserts for a lacklustre showing.
