Marouane Chamakh joins Cardiff City as Neil Warnock completes third free transfer in 24 hours but... where has the striker's hair gone?

  • Marouane Chamakh has signed for Cardiff City until January
  • The striker is new manager Neil Warnock's third free agent signing
  • Sol Bamba and Junior Hoillet have joined the club over the last 24 hours
  • Chamakh's trademark hairstyle has been replaced with a simple buzzcut
  • Cardiff are currently second from bottom in the Championship

Cardiff City have agreed a short-team deal with former Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

The Moroccan has signed with the Championship club until January and could earn a long-term contract based on his performances at the Cardiff City Stadium.

He will link up once again with Neil Warnock, who he worked with at Crystal Palace. He was released at the end of last season after spending three years at Selhurst Park.

'I worked for him [Neil Warnock] at Crystal Palace before and I'm happy and proud to work with him here at Cardiff City FC,' the striker told Cardiff City Player HD.

'Cardiff are a side that should be on top and I think we can improve going forward. I'm looking forward to meeting with my new team-mates and getting started. I can't wait to score for my new team.'

He started his career at Bordeaux, where he won the Ligue 1 title in 2009 before securing a switch to Arsenal.

Chamakh managed 67 appearances and 14 goals during his time with the Gunners, before he joined West Ham in 2013 on loan - the same year he subsequently moved to Selhurst Park.

'We've signed Marouane on a short-term deal until January to assess his fitness,' said Warnock.

'He's a versatile player with pedigree and somebody who impressed me during my time at Crystal Palace.'

The 32-year-old sported a stern-looking buzz cut during his unveiling as a Cardiff player; a stark difference to the outlandish style he sported during his Premier League career.

Chamakh becomes Cardiff's third free transfer in the past 24 hours, following Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett as Warnock looks to bolster his squad.

His new team will be hoping the striker can help fire them up the league table.

Cardiff currently occupy 23rd place in the Championship with 11 games gone and have won just twice - a run of form which ultimately cost manager Paul Trollope his job after less than five months in charge.

Warnock will take charge of his first game as Cardiff boss against fifth placed Bristol City on Friday.
