  • Gunners are yet to win this month going into the Champions League clash
  • Since taking charge in 1996, the Frenchman tends to struggle in November
  • Wenger's worst league results have come in the penultimate month of year

Arsenal have a reputation for starting the season slow and figures show that Arsene Wenger's worst run of results come in the month of November.

The Gunners have failed to lift the Premier League title since the 2003-04 season and their progress in recent years had been hindered by poor results early in the campaign.

In two Premier League games this month they shared the points with rivals Tottenham and lost to West Brom.

Our friends over at Opta have released figures which shows that since Frenchman Wenger took charge of the north London club in 1996, Arsenal's worst league results have come in November.

NOVEMBER SLUMP UNDER WENGER

Average points per game under Wenger:

August: 1.90 points

September: 2.10

October: 2.13

November: 1.60

December: 1.97

January: 1.93

February: 1.99

March: 2.22

April: 2.10

May: 1.95

Arsenal have an average points-per-game ratio of 1.60 points in the penultimate month of the year with August - when the season begins - the month where they suffer their second-worst slump (1.90).

The 1997-98 season, Wenger's second season in charge of the Premier League giants, saw his side register just one victory in November - albeit against rivals Manchester United.

Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal for over 19 years and in that time, he has only gone unbeaten in the month of November on four occasions.

The 2002-03, 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2010-11 seasons saw the Gunners fail to lose a single league match in November but more often than not, the month has been one to forget during the 66-year-old's tenure.

It's no surprise then that the Gunners have failed to win any of their three matches this month going into Tuesday's European clash with Dinamo Zagreb at the Emirates.

Wenger's men - who were thrashed 5-1 by Bayern Munich at the beginning of the month - know a defeat against their Croatian opponents at home will confirm their Champions League exit at the group stage.

There is cause for optimism for Arsenal fans, though, with March (2.22 points per game) being the month where they register their best run of results under Wenger.

However, Arsenal's slump in form in November has hindered their progress during recent seasons and Wenger will want to resurrect their current slump quickly if they're to challenge for the title.

Following Tuesday's clash, Arsenal then travel to Norwich City to face Alex Neil's men in the Premier League on Sunday.
