Jose Mourinho insists he has 'no problems' with any of his Chelsea players... here's the XI he's fallen out with before

  • The Portuguese boss also revealed Mario Balotelli tested his patience

Chelsea's poor start to the season has forced Jose Mourinho to fend off questions about his relationships with certain players.

Mourinho decided to leave Oscar, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao at home while benching John Terry for Chelsea's 2-1 Champions League defeat against Porto on Tuesday night, but insisted after the game he has a 'fantastic relationship with everyone'.

Having already suffered four defeats so far this season, it's clear to see there are some problems at Stamford Bridge and the 52-year-old boss is certainly no stranger to falling out with his players.

Here, Sportsmail takes a look at the players Mourinho hasn't seen eye-to-eye with and the reasons behind his biggest feuds.

IKER CASILLAS

Casillas and Mourinho spent three turbulent La Liga seasons together at Real Madrid which saw the Bernabeu icon eventually reduced to a bit-part role after over a decade as the club's undisputed No 1.

Mourinho favoured reserve goalkeeper Diego Lopez during the 2012-13 season after finding out Casillas had made a peace-making phonecall to Barcelona star Xavi following another heated El Clasico.

The Portuguese manager saw this as an act of unforgivable treachery as he looked to create a war between Madrid and Barca.

SERGIO RAMOS

Ramos questioned Mourinho's willingness to criticise his players following a defeat at Sevilla and was subsequently dropped for a Champions League clash against Manchester City.

The pair failed to ever reconcile and the Spanish defender reportedly told Madrid president Florentino Perez in 2013 either Mourinho left the club or he would ask to be transferred.

WILLIAM GALLAS

Although the Frenchman didn't fall out with Mourinho directly, Chelsea claimed Gallas threatened to score an own goal if he was selected for their first game of the season against Manchester City in 2006 as he tried to force a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Gallas allegedly refused to play again for the Blues and subsequently joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day despite attempts from Mourinho to keep him at the club.

PEPE

After standing by his defender's various on-pitch misdemeanours during the 2010-11 season, Mourinho was upset by Pepe's decision to tell reporters that the manager should show 'more respect' to Madrid icon Casillas.

Mourinho responded by claiming: 'Pepe has a problem and his name is Raphael Varane'.

KAKA

Throughout Mourinho and Kaka's time together at Madrid, there were claims the two didn't get on. The Brazilian midfielder suffered with injury for large spells and was never able to hit form under the Portuguese boss, who more often than not would keep him on the bench.

Speaking recently, Kaka revealed there were disagreements between the pair.

He told Marca: 'It is true that there were things that we disagreed on, but to me I had no choice but to keep working hard and that's what I did.'

JUAN MATA

Mata's relationship with Mourinho had sunk so low that he had no option but to leave Chelsea after the pair stopped speaking in 2014.

The Spain midfielder cost Manchester United £37.1million in January and has since revealed there was 'no dialogue' with his manager at Stamford Bridge.

It marked a sorry end for Mata, who was widely adored in west London and had scooped the club's fans' and players' Player of the Year awards the previous season.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE

Manchester City's record signing was sold by Mourinho for £18million just 19 months ago, moving to Wolfsburg in Germany after an unhappy time in London.

The Belgian winger has since claimed the Blues boss only spoke to him on two occasions during his time at the club while Mourinho has suggested De Bruyne refused to fight for a first-team place.

RICARDO QUARESMA

Mourinho was one of several managers who were disappointed with the level of commitment shown by Portuguese maverick Quaresma.

After failing to make an impact under Mourinho, he was sent on-loan to Chelsea, but the then Inter boss warned Quaresma he must improve his attitude before returning.

'Quaresma is likely to come back, but he will have to present himself with a different mentality in order to do what he hasn't done for Inter yet,' Mourinho told A Bola.

SAMUEL ETO'O

The veteran striker was rumoured to have fallen out with Mourinho after the Chelsea boss was filmed by a French television channel saying, 'Eto'o is 32 years old, maybe 35, who knows?'

Although Eto'o seemed to laugh off the comment with a comical 'old man' celebration after scoring against Manchester United last year, he told reporters: 'I am 33 years old. And it is not because a fool called me an old man that you must believe it.

MARIO BALOTELLI

Mourinho axed Balotelli from his squad for Inter Milan's Champions League clash with Chelsea in 2010 after reportedly having a blazing row with the Italian.

The 52-year-old has since admitted that although Balotelli tested his patience on a number of occasions - including when he went to watch the Italian Formula One Grand Prix rather than attend a meeting - he can now see the funny side of the situations.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

Ronaldo was also captured by Spanish television appearing to direct an insult in Portuguese towards Mourinho during a win over Malaga in 2013.

One channel, Cuatro, claimed the former Manchester United forward had shouted Foda-se! (f*** you!) at the home bench after scoring his 200th goal for the club.

And speaking in 2014, Ronaldo blasted Mourinho for creating a ‘bad atmosphere’ at Madrid during his troubled reign at the Bernabeu claiming ‘He’s no friend of mine’ after slamming Mourinho for his attitude towards the squad and fans.
