Newcastle United seek to secure Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga with £7m bid

Newcastle United have made a £7million move for Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

The 23-year-old Hamburg striker was an option earlier this summer for Steve McClaren but Hamburg want £10m for the former Germany Under 21 international.

Lasogga joined Hamburg on a five-year deal from Bundesliga rivals Hertha Berlin in 2014 having arrived at the club on loan in 2013.

The former Bayer Leverkusen forward won 11 caps for the Germany Under 21 side.

Lasogga has struggled to break into the Hamburg first team this season and is set to leave.

Newcastle are looking for another striker with QPR's Charlie Austin still a possibility. Papiss Cisse will be allowed to leave and has attracted tentative interest from West Ham.

The Upton Park club, however, are pressing ahead with a deal for Hull City's Nikica Jelavic and loan for Victor Moses from Chelsea.
