Arsene Wenger has put his trust in two of his former Arsenal heroes to nurture and refine Yaya Sanogo at Ajax.

Sanogo completed a loan move to Amsterdam on Friday where the centre forward will link up with Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars.

'He will join Ajax certainly, but we have not finished the paperwork,' said Wenger.

Wenger hopes Sanogo, pictured on his debut in a friendly against Wolfsburg, can learn from the pair

'He will go on loan. He is at that age where he needs to play.

'He came to us injured and it took us a while to get him to top level.

'I am sure it will be good for Ajax and he has an opportunity to play in the Champions League and that's vital for his experience.

'Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars work there and we have a good relationship with them.'

Overmars, a star of Wenger's Double winning side of 1998, is director of football at Ajax and Bergkamp, who spent 11 brilliant years at Arsenal, is assistant to Ajax boss Frank de Boer.

Wenger will hope Bergkamp in particular will be able to unlock some of Sanogo's natural talent during a year in Dutch football and help him become more threatening in front of goal.

The 22-year-old has scored only once for Arsenal in two years since arriving from Auxerre, the opener in a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, last November.
