Roy Keane: It's nonsense to say Chelsea are a great team, they haven't won enough

Roy Keane has dismissed Jose Mourinho's insistence that Chelsea are a great team, calling it 'nonsense'.

The Portuguese manager made the claim before of his side's draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League.

'The hard work is to build a great team and we are a great team,' Mourinho told ITV. 'We did the hard work, which is to build a great team, now is the unpredictability of football.'

But former Manchester United captain Keane was far from convinced.

He said: 'I think they have the potential to be a great team. He's clearly a great manager but they've got to back it up with some trophies.

'To say they're a great team at the moment is nonsense.'

After the game, he added: 'That wasn't a great performance. Chelsea were very poor defensively.'

Keane's former team-mate and fellow pundit Paul Scholes shared the view, insisting the Premier League leaders needed to prove themselves first.

'Over four or five years you have to win trophies every year,' said Scholes. 'It's a bit early to say they're a great team.'

The Blues haven't won a trophy since 2013, when they won the Europa League, and for Mourinho the wait has been even longer. The 52-year-old's last silverware came in the Supercopa de Espana in the summer of 2012.
