Sack the board! Fergie feels the pain of poor passing on and off the field
Sir Alex Ferguson was left hurt in more ways than one after his Manchester United side crashed to a 3-2 home defeat against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.
The Spanish side thoroughly outplayed the Red Devils at Old Trafford, which would have left Fergie with mental scars before the return leg of the last 16 clash.
But he may also have physical ones too after finding out how heavy those digital fourth official boards actually are.
Feeling relentless second half pressure from the visitors, Ferguson prepared to send on Anderson with the substitution board passed along the dugout ready to make a change.
But like the players on the pitch, the passing was all astray in the dugout too as Rene Meulensteen and Mike Phelan combined to drop the board on Fergie’s foot.
It was no time for niceties though, with neither coach apologising. Meulensteen just about managed a sorry wave.
