The resulting transportation chaos is affecting road between Ryde and Homebush, with heavy traffic southbound on Lane Cove Rd, Concord Rd, and Homebush Bay Drive.
South West Metropolitan Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli said extra police are being rostered on to deal with the gigantic crowds, the Daily Telegraph reported.
'There will be significant crowds heading to Olympic Park at the same time for the events so we’re urging everyone to allow extra travel time, be mindful of your own safety and those around you, and don’t spoil the fun for others,' he said.
In addition to the roads between Ryde and the venues, the M4, Parramatta Rd, Silverwater Rd, and Epping Rd are all expected to be affected.
