Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal have done ‘very well’ out of this January’s transfer window despite losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United and two other big-name attackers.
Olivier Giroud also moved to Chelsea, while Theo Walcott joined Everton, making it three experienced forwards departing all in one transfer window.
Ferdinand, however, is excited about the potential of new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who he says he’s been following for a few years at Borussia Dortmund.
The Gabon international joined the Gunners on deadline day after scoring 141 goals in 213 appearances for Dortmund, and he truly looks one of the best finishers in Europe at the moment.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan also joining as part of the Sanchez deal, Ferdinand has praised Arsene Wenger’s work in strengthening his attack this winter.
The former England international also gave three reasons he’s particularly excited about Aubameyang’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium – his pace, goalscoring ability, and potential link-up with former Dortmund team-mate Mkhitaryan.
Asked if Arsenal got a good deal with Aubameyang, Ferdinand told BT Sport: ‘Yes I do. For the last few years I have wanted him to come to the Premier League.
‘He is an exciting player. He has pace, scores goals and will link up with Mkhitaryan.
‘I think Arsenal have done very well with attacking positions in this transfer window.’
