Chelsea in ongoing talks over €60m splurge for key signings

Chelsea are reportedly still trying to negotiate a deal that will see them complete a double swoop for Roma pair Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri.

The Blues have had their troubles scoring goals in recent outings, going on a barren run of just one goal scored in four games in all competitions.

Having swept aside Brighton at the weekend in a 4-0 victory, that performance and result will have lifted spirits, but the lack of options beyond summer signing Alvaro Morata remains a problem for Antonio Conte.

Michy Batshuayi continues to be underused, while Eden Hazard in a ‘false nine’ role could be option, but neither seem to be the solution for the Chelsea boss as speculation continues to link them with a new signing.

In turn, it makes sense that Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the club are still pushing ahead with a swoop for Dzeko, while they could sort out a separate issue at left back in the same deal.

It’s claimed that Emerson Palmieri is also being discussed, with €50m plus €10m in bonuses required to wrap up the deal, while the Brazilian defender has already agreed on personal terms.

As a result, it looks fairly positive from a Chelsea perspective that deals could be done, but nothing is official as of yet as talks continue between the two parties.

Meanwhile, with Marcos Alonso playing 31 times already this season with the Spaniard getting a rare rest late on at Brighton when he has been playing a full 90 minutes almost every week, the need for additional competition and depth on the left flank is obvious at Stamford Bridge.

Coupled with Dzeko, who topped the Serie A goalscoring charts last season, Chelsea could still be set for a very productive January transfer window if this double swoop can materialise.
