Arsenal have reportedly told Manchester United they want to seal the transfer of Anthony Martial if Alexis Sanchez is to move to Old Trafford this January.
According to the Daily Star, United are in the race for Sanchez and negotiations seem to be ongoing, with Arsenal seeking to land Martial as a like-for-like replacement.
The France international could be a superb signing to fill that void left by Sanchez in Arsenal’s attack, with the 22-year-old having shone in his time in the Premier League.
Despite not always being a regular starter, Martial’s pace and finishing ability make him a great addition either out wide or up front, and that kind of versatility will no doubt appeal to Arsene Wenger.
It remains to be seen if Jose Mourinho would allow such a promising young player to move to a rival given there is little pressure to do so, in contrast to Arsenal’s situation with Sanchez.
The Gunners need to sell the Chile international this winter if they are to receive any transfer fee at all for him, as he will be out of contract at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The Daily Star add that Arsenal have dropped their asking price to £30million for Sanchez, while BBC Sport suggest previous suitors Manchester City seem prepared to risk missing out on him due to the north Londoners’ demands.
