Liverpool have broken a long-standing record by rivals Manchester United after their hugely impressive 7-0 victory over Spartak Moscow in the Champions League last night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were in devastating form as they thrashed their opponents last night, and they’re now the holders of an impressive record in Europe’s top club competition.
Liverpool ended on 23 goals in their six group matches, which is more than any Premier League side have ever managed at this stage of the competition.
Manchester United had previously topped the list of English clubs with 20 goals in their 1998/99 treble-winning season, but the Reds are now ahead of them by a clear three goals.

On top of that, Liverpool’s stunning record is now the second highest group stage haul in Champions League history, and would have been the best ever if not for PSG also blowing sides away with 25 goals this season.
Clearly, Liverpool and PSG aren’t being challenged enough in a competition that should be bringing together the very best club teams from all over the continent.
Liverpool, who finished fourth in the Premier League last season, putting seven past the Russian champions certainly suggests a growing gap between the top five leagues and the rest of Europe.
Liverpool fans won’t care, though, with their club pipping United to an impressive record regardless of the opposition.
