Man United legend Rio Ferdinand that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to the United first team could be behind Romelu Lukaku’s recent goalscoring struggles.
This is according to the Daily Mail, who state that when talking on BT SPORT, Ferdinand suggested he thinks “that maybe the bigger problem for him is Zlatan Ibrahimovic being there.”
Ferdinand then added “‘Mentally, having a big striker behind you who wants to play, that’s a pressure (coming) from within, and sometimes people find that hard to deal with.”
Ferdinand made 455 appearances for United during his career, with the player being regarded as a legend by the majority of Man United fans.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford from fellow Premier League side Everton in the summer, Lukaku has hit the ground running despite his recent poor form.
In 14 league games for Mourinho’s side so far this season, the 24-year-old has managed to score a total of eight goals, with the player also picking up four assists in that time as well.
For Everton, Lukaku was always on form. In 166 games for the Toffees, the Belgian international was able to bag 87 goals and 29 assists.
Recently, though, Lukaku has looked a shadow of his former self. In his last 11 games, the former Everton star has only been able to find the net once, something that manager Mourinho is surely not happy about.

Should Lukaku’s current form continue, it possibly won’t be long before we see Ibrahimovic starting over the Belgian for Mourinho’s side.
