He’d be an exciting addition to the Premier League.

Manchester United and Chelsea could have a fresh opportunity to seal a marquee transfer next summer as Bayern Munich accept the departure of one of their star players.

According to Don Balon, the Bavarian giants will let Robert Lewandowski go at the end of the season and have already identified an ideal replacement for him in the form of Inter Milan hot-shot Mauro Icardi.

The Poland international has been a huge success during his time at the Allianz Arena, but Don Balon claim he wants a fresh challenge and looks most likely to head either to the Premier League or to Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen if United and Chelsea would renew their interest in Lewandowski, but Sky Sports reported both clubs held talks over signing him this summer.

It now seems the prolific 29-year-old could be available at last, and neutrals would certainly love to see him play in England at some point in his career.

Lewandowski has a superb record of 125 goals in 164 appearances for Bayern, and also shone in Germany during his four years at Borussia Dortmund.

Would Lewandowski be a priority transfer target for United or Chelsea?

United have Romelu Lukaku up front this season after signing him from Everton, while Chelsea also brought in a new front-man with a move for Alvaro Morata to replace Diego Costa.

Having done so, it may be that they would no longer feel the need to come in for Lewandowski, though he’d be hard to turn down if he were to become available.

Lukaku is currently struggling for United after going seven consecutive games without a goal, and many would argue that Lewandowski would be an upgrade.

Morata has impressed in fits and starts for Chelsea this season, and scored the Blues’ winner against United at the weekend, though he has rarely boasted stats anywhere near as impressive as Lewandowski at any point in his career.
