Spanish journalist claims Man United are set to sign La Liga superstar, deal for 26-year-old forward to go through next summer

La Liga expert Guillem Balague has claimed that Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann is set to sign for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, with the deal for the French stat set to go through next summer due to Atletico’s ongoing transfer embargo, according to the Sun.

As per the Sun, Griezmann was United boss Mourinho’s number one target for the Red Devils this summer, however due to Atleti’s ongoing transfer ban, the Euro 2016 runner up ended extending his contract with Diego Simeone’s side, with United then opting to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton as they looked to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Despite Griezmann’s move to Manchester falling through this summer, Spanish journalist Balague claims that the move could still take place next summer, report the Sun, with the player already reportedly assessing his options for next season.

In an interview, Balague said that Griezmann is “playing with the fans and he will continue to do that with teasing messages but it is quite clear he will consider a move to Old Trafford next summer.”

Should Man United end up securing a deal for Griezmann next summer, it’ll surely put United as one of the favourites to win both the Premier League and the Champions League next season.
