Manchester United squad split over potential Jose Mourinho arrival

According to reports, the Manchester United squad are split about the possibility of Jose Mourinho taking the reins at Old Trafford.

The Sun report that some of the Red Devils squad are concerned about what role Ryan Giggs would play at the club should Mourinho arrive as a replacement for Louis van Gaal.

Similarly, according to the tabloid, there are also concerns about both the Portuguese manager’s recent time at Chelsea, and how speedily things declined for the reigning champions during the first half of this season, and about whether an overhaul of the squad could lead to many players being cut loose.

Indeed, it’s easy to see why United’s players would be wary about the prospect of Mourinho arriving at the club.

While the ex-Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager oversaw an imperious run to the title last season, as Chelsea romped to the EPL crown, the side unravelled remarkably this season, and with almost all of the Blues’ key men underperforming, they found themselves mired in the bottom half of the table when Mourinho was dismissed in December.

Under the Portuguese coach’s successor, Guus Hiddink, things have improved, and Chelsea remain unbeaten, although they are yet to truly come close to restoring their former lustre, and remain in the bottom half of the table.

Similarly, even though Mourinho has left, some of his erstwhile key men, notably Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic, are yet to come close to rediscovering their previous form.
