The return to the top four seems to have come at a heavy price.

Arsene Wenger has admitted he blames himself for potential hard hitting injuries to Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Leicester City.

Ramsey pulled up just eight minutes after coming on in the second half in what looks like a serious hamstring injury – a muscle the Welshman has injured three times already this season.

“I don’t know how bad it is yet. Just visually, it didn’t look good. When a guy stops straight away and sits down, that’s not good news,” Wenger told Arsenal.com

“There’s a recurrence now of a few muscular injuries and it’s difficult – we haven’t found out why. I basically left him out today because I wanted to be cautious with him. I had to bring him on – I had a hesitation between Flamini and him – because we lacked a a bit of offensive power. It was not the best of decisions.”

Sanchez meanwhile, returned to the starting XI after missing the last two games through injury but looked to be suffering after a heavy tackle on his knee from Mathew Upson in the first half and was substituted on the 67th minute.

However, it was a shock the Chilean even came out in the second half and Wenger says he now wishes he had taken him off at the break.

“Yes I was ready to take him off at half-time but he said, ‘No it’s okay, I can go on’,” said Wenger

“When I watched him play I thought, ‘No, that hasn’t [got better]’. Sometimes when you run it off it’s just a kick but he became worse and I didn’t see him in the second half.”

The Gunners did, however, run out 2-1 victors over Leicester despite the injury concerns and returned to the top four after the disappointment of their North London Derby defeat.
