The Metro claim that the Anfield side are to make a £6m offer for in-form Cardiff City goalie David Marshall.

The Scottish international has been in fine form this term and without his efforts his Bluebirds side would already have been relegated from the top tier, though relegation does seem a distinct possibility and Rodgers is ready to make his move for the former Norwich City and Celtic man if the Welsh side fail to beat the drop.

Though Liverpool sit pretty at the top of the Premier League they have looked decidedly leaky at the back and whilst some of the blame for that lies with a shaky defence there is no denying that at times Belgian Mignolet has looked out of sorts.

Even during Liverpool’s ten match winning streak the Merseyside club have kept just three clean sheets and their total of 42 goals conceded is bettered by no less than seven top tier sides.

Rodgers may feel that 29 year old Marshall is better placed to offer Mignolet a real challenge for the Liverpool starting spot than Aussie Brad Jones.
