Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is tempted to play with a 4-4-2 formation in the north London club’s closing matches of the season after watching his side beat West Ham United 3-1 at the Emirates in the Premier League on Tuesday night, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners’ goals against the Hammers were scored by front men Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski and while the experienced French trainer did say after the full-time whistle that he was keen to play with two men up front for the final games of the season, he will resist the temptation due to a lack of quality wide men on the flanks.
“I am tempted but I have so many offensive players, who all want to go in the middle, and Lukas [Podolski] is the only one who is really a wide player,” said Wenger in his post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, the Gunners boss went on to heap praise on France international Giroud, who netted the home team’s crucial second goal to put them in front against the east London side with what was the striker’s 14th goal in 32 Premier League contests so far this campaign.
“It was a perfect first touch. You need that if you want to score the goal,” said Wenger.
“What I like is that he used his upper body first to make some space, and despite that he managed to have a great first touch, and after that he finished well.”
Arsenal’s victory moved them back up to fourth place in the table, one point above rivals Everton in fifth, although the north Londoners have now played a game more than the Merseysiders in the race to finish the season in the top four of the table.
