After initially struggling to make the team, the 19-year-old has emerged as one of the driving forces behind the Reds’ title-bid.
Sterling, who can operate on either flank, has bagged seven league goals and three assists from 29 Premier League appearances and his brilliant goal against Man City on Sunday could one of the most important in the club’s recent history.
The forward currently earns £30,000-a-week after signing a deal 18 months ago. The contract does not expire until 2017 but the Reds want to reward Sterling for his performances and attitude off the pitch.
Having previously gained a reputation as a wild-child, the player has moved an hour away from Liverpool city centre to avoid the temptation to party and is reaping the rewards on the field.
The former QPR youngster is likely to part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
