Newcastle should not sack Steve McClaren - Howey

Former Newcastle defender Steve Howey says it would be a "knee-jerk reaction" for the club to sack manager Steve McClaren, despite a poor start to the season.

McClaren acknowledged Newcastle were "close to a crisis" after a 1-0 League Cup home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday - their fourth defeat in a row.

But Howey admits he feels some sympathy for the manager, and says it is the club's players who need to improve their performances.
