Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United ‘fits’ and Everton striker will improve by joining Jose Mourinho’s side, says Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy has backed Manchester United's move for Romelu Lukaku, claiming the prolific striker is only going to get better at Old Trafford.

United are plotting a £75million bid for the Belgian star and are hopeful of getting a deal done, although Everton insist they have yet to receive an approach and value the 24-year-old at closer to £100m.

Lukaku has struck 85 Premier League goals over the past five seasons for Everton and West Brom and Murphy reckons he would be an excellent signing for Jose Mourinho's side - whatever the cost.

Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, the former Liverpool and England midfielder said: "His goals to games ratio in the Premier League for West Brom and Everton is absolutely sensational, really, when you think about the level those teams are at compared to the big boys.

"If he is getting 20 goals at Everton and 18 or whatever it was at West Brom, logic suggests he is going to get more chances at a better team. He is a 20-goal-a-season striker proven in the Premier League and, for me, there is no way he can't get better playing with better players.

"When you play any level of football, if you jump up a level usually everything becomes a bit easier. You would also think that less of his energy is going to be used defending when they dominate possession in so many games they play.

"There is an argument to suggest he will come up against more packed defences where he doesn't have the space to run behind. Well, I don't see that as a problem for him because he loves the ball on the edge of the box, rolling people because of his strength. I think it [Lukaku to United] fits.

"When you look at what is out there, it fits."
