Phil Neville hails Wayne Rooney’s return to Everton and says there are ‘there are massive things to come’ from striker – LISTEN

Phil Neville believes Wayne Rooney's return to Everton will reinvigorate his career.

Rooney rejoined his boyhood club for an undisclosed fee last week after 13 years at Manchester United.

Doubts have been expressed about whether he can recapture his best form at Goodison Park, with the 31-year-old having struggled to impress in recent seasons.

Neville, though, is convinced his former United teammate is going to be a big success in his second spell at Everton.

"I think there are massive things to come from Wayne Rooney," Neville, who played for both clubs, told talkSPORT.

"Having watched him over the last 12 months and the lack of match action he has got, this could be the move that gives his career a kick on."

Rooney has traded places with Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian striker moving to United in a £75m deal, and Neville believes it's good business by both his old teams.

"It is good for both clubs," said.

"What Jose [Mourinho] likes in all the teams he has managed is a target man and you think maybe Jose was stopping Lukaku going to Chelsea to make them stronger and he is the best target man around.

"Everton have got unbelievable money,  invested that money really well, and I think both parties will be happy."
