Mourinho: Chelsea have ‘very good’ situation in Premier League despite draw with Southampton

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admitted he was unhappy with the Blues 1-1 draw against Southampton on Sunday, but claimed his side’s lead at the top of the Premier League table is “very good.".

A Dusan Tadic penalty and a string of fine saves from Fraser Forster salvaged a point for Saints at Stamford Bridge, as the league leaders failed to capitalise on Manchester City’s shock 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

And, despite his frustration with the result, Mourinho believes his team are in a good position to clinch their first title since 2010.

“Firstly, we are not happy with a point at home,” said Mourinho. “But the second perspective is to look at the Premier League table and that we have one point more than our opponents in second.”

“We have a six point lead with one match in hand with ten matches to play. Other teams have nine matches to play so we are talking about 27 points that our opponents can win and we have an advantage of six points.

“It’s open and difficult but our situation is very good.”
