Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero have been linked with moves to Real Madrid

Liverpool’s enigmatic frontman or Man City’s marksman: Who is best for Real Madrid?

When Real Madrid come calling, no matter how big the club, the Spanish giants tend to get their man.

Liverpool and Manchester City may have no intention of selling their star players, but if Madrid could sign Barcelona's best player (Luis Figo), they can sign anyone.

For that reason, fans of the Premier League title chasers should be praying the nine times European champions steer clear of Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero.

For many players hailing from Latin American and Iberian regions, the opportunity to play for Real Madrid has been almost impossible to turn down.

Los Blancos’ reach and reputation as arguably the world's biggest club is built on a history of unrivalled success and stellar signings.

Last summer they broke their own world transfer record by landing Gareth Bale for an estimated £85m, and while they would be unlikely to fork out that level of cash this year, unsurprisingly Real are plotting another stunning deal.

It has been touted that striker Karim Benzema could be sold in order to facilitate a move for either Sergio Aguero or Luis Suarez but, should a deal prove feasible, who would suit Carlo Ancelotti’s side best?

Based on this season alone, that question only appears to have one answer. Luis Suarez’s phenomenal form for Liverpool cannot be ignored, with the Uruguayan having scored 30 league goals in 30 appearances to fire his side ever closer to a first title in 24 years.

That statistic alone underlines just how impressive Suarez has been and can be traced back to last season as well, as he turned on the style domestically - scoring 23 league goals - before his campaign was cut short through suspension.

Comparably, while Aguero’s 2013/14 season has been largely disrupted by injury, he boasts strong scoring figures. In the space of just 20 league appearances, and half the game time of Suarez (1,341 minutes played, compared to 2,694), Aguero has scored 16 league goals.

On the goal-scoring front, Real Madrid need little help finding the net, having scored 94 league goals and 141 in all competitions - primarily spear-headed by the untouchable Cristiano Ronaldo - and while Suarez and Aguero’s numbers are impressive, any decision on who to pursue may come down to personality and prestige more than anything.

That is perhaps where any eventual decision would likely be made. While he has done a lot to clean up his image this season, Luis Suarez still represents something of loose cannon for Real Madrid.

Over the past few seasons, Real have shown a penchant for squeaky-clean players, who are also world-class performers. In this respect, Aguero holds the advantage.

Real Madrid’s relationship (or lack thereof) with Sergio Aguero is one which holds some history. Real have been keen on Aguero for years and notably tried to sign him on a handful of occasions when he was still an Atletico player.

Naturally, the Argentine was denied a move for obvious reasons and eventually pitched up at the Etihad after Man City forced Atleti’s hand. However, in a season where Atletico Madrid could end up as domestic champions, the opportunity to land one of their favoured sons would be the perfect way for Real to thumb their nose at their neighbour’s success.

Should Real Madrid look for a marquee signing this summer, is Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero the better signing? Comment below…
