Arsenal FC transfer news: All you need to know about Eintracht Frankfurt’s Aymen Barkok, subject to Gunners interest

Arsenal may already have made two exciting additions this summer, but they are not finished yet.

Arsene Wenger secured the free signing of Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac in June, before adding Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in a deal worth £52million.

The FA Cup winners are now said to have made an approach for Eintracht Frankfurt's Aymen Barkok, but a bid of £10m has been snubbed by the Bundesliga side, who are bracing themselves for another approach.

So, who is Barkok? And why are Arsenal interested?

Here, talkSPORT profiles the 19-year-old who could be preparing for life in London...

Full Name: Aymen Barkok

Date of birth: May 21, 1998 (age 19)

Birthplace: Frankfurt, Germany

Position: Midfielder

What's his story?

A Germany youth international of Moroccan descent, Barkok only made his full debut for hometown club Eintracht Frankfurt in November. He went on to make 19 senior appearances in total for the DFP-Pokal finalists.

Midfielder Barkok scored twice and assisted two more as he impressed for Niko Kovac’s side.

He is currently away with Germany at the European Under-19 Championship and has one goal in two appearances.

What type of player is he?

A lot of his cameos last term came from the bench, but he excelled mostly in a central role. An early criticism would be the fact he commits fouls too often, but he is an exciting prospect when the ball is at his feet.

A set-piece specialist, WhoScored statistics show he is a player who shoots from distance often, while he also enjoys carrying the ball. He favours playing long passes, so maybe the latter is something Arsenal can see as a strength, while teaching him when the right and wrong times are to go for a flashy cross-field pass.

How could he fit in at Arsenal?

Definitely one for the future, with the Gunners’ current competition in the centre of the park a loan move would suit Barkok in order to get regular game time, be it a return to Frankfurt or elsewhere.

Arsenal currently have the likes of Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mohamed Elneny, Santi Cazorla and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among their central midfield options.

If he stays put and gets his chance at the Emirates, Barkok would have to hit the ground running to keep his place in the team.
