Most Arsenal fans were delighted that Mesut Ozil had finally got his act together and signed a new deal at the club – but Ian Wright does not share their view.

The Arsenal legend has been outspoken critic of Ozil in recent seasons and remains unimpressed despite the German’s impressive form for the Gunners this term.

Ozil has agreed to a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Emirates and is the club’s highest paid player on wages of £350,000-a-week following Alexis Sanchez’s transfer move to Manchester United.

While some have praised Ozil for committing his peak years to Arsenal, Wright hit back at a fan who asked why he wasn’t shouting the news from the rooftops.

‘Why? Because he’s played a couple of decent games and now he’s signed a contract?’ the former striker responded on Instagram.

‘Didn’t see many clubs beating down the door and he was free. Let’s hope he’s consistent now he’s signed.’

Ozil insists he let his ‘heart decide’ when considering whether or not to extend his stay in north London.

‘Proud to announce: I signed dat thing… 3 more years with Arsenal!’ the midfielder wrote on Instagram after agreeing to his new deal.

‘It’s been one of the most important decisions of my footballing career and that’s why I had to think hard and talk with everyone who’s important to me.

‘Good things take time! In the end I let my heart decide.

‘As I always said, I feel at home here and I’m highly motivated to achieve big things in the next few years.

‘Once a Gunner, always a Gunner!’
