Arsenal’s hopes of signing Bordeaux attacker Malcom before the January window closes have been dented after the Brazilian rejected their contract offer, according to reports.

The Gunners are in the middle of a significant January overhaul of their squad, with Alexis Sanchez’s pending move to Manchester United expected to be followed by a host of new arrivals.

Konstantinos Mvaropanos has already joined from Greek side PAS Giannina, while the club are also working on deals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Malcom.

Arsenal believe they need two new attacking players to minimise the impact of Sanchez’s exit, but The Times say that those plans are in disarray after Malcom rejected the terms offered to him.

Furthermore, while Arsenal had been confident of agreeing a fee of £44m for the 20-year-old, Bordeaux are playing hardball after growing annoyed with the public interest shown in him.

Malcom has recently been reprimanded by the French club for posting a video on social media laughing and joking with his teammates despite Bordeaux having lost to Caen hours earlier.

The Brazilian only signed a new contract in the summer, and has marked himself out as one of the most talented young players in Europe since then with seven goals and five assists in 20 Ligue 1 appearances.

Arsenal’s deals for Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan are thought to be more advanced, with Bild reporting that the Gabon striker’s father travelled to London to try and complete the deal.

Mkhitaryan is being used as a makeweight in United’s deal for Sanchez and both clubs hope to have the deals completed by noon on Friday so they can play at the weekend, while Jonny Evans is another target for the Gunners.
