Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Jonny Evans from West Brom, according to reports.

The former Manchester United centre-back was wanted by Arsene Wenger in the summer but the Baggies rejected an offer from the Gunners, as well as bids from Manchester City and Leicester City.

West Brom are now open to selling the 30-year-old as Alan Pardew needs more funds for new signings this month.

Acording to The Sun, Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing a £25 million deal with West Brom for the Northern Ireland international.

City remain interested in Evans as Pep Guardiola wants to sign a new central defender this month, along with Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

But it’s the Gunners who currently lead the race for Evans.

Last week, Pardew admitted that there was a strong possibility that Evans would leave West Brom for the right price.

“I am conscious that if there are no funds available I might have to move something around,’ he said.

“I have always thought that you would be slightly naive in your job if you didn’t try to cover all the bases.

“So there is a scenario that Jonny Evans might move. For sure I have looked at that. There is a scenario that Jonny doesn’t move. There is a scenario someone else moves.
