Mohamed Salah is out of Liverpool’s New Year’s Day clash with Burnley and is in a race against time to be fit to face Manchester City in two weeks, according to reports.

Th Egyptian, who has been in utterly sensational form since moving to Anfield from Roma in the summer, suffered a knee injury in the Reds’ come-from-behind win over Leicester and was missing from training in the days that followed.

Jurgen Klopp was concerned after the match, saying: ‘I don’t know in this moment exactly what it is but he was limping. That’s never a good sign.’

And now the Daily Mirror report that Salah will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks and will miss Monday’s trip to Burnley in the Premier League.

He is also expected to miss the massive FA Cup clash against Merseyside rivals Everton which takes place just a few days later, on Friday evening.

Salah, who scored twice against Leicester to take his tally in the league to 17 goals, will, however, be allowed to travel to Ghana on Thursday to attend the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year awards.

Fellow Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane will join him, which means both players could miss the third-round derby showdown.

Liverpool have over a week off after taking on Everton, and Salah will be hoping to get back to fitness in time for the return of the Premier League, when the Reds host runaway leaders Man City on Sunday, January 14.

Klopp was full of praise for Salah’s start to life at Liverpool after the Leicester win, saying: ‘It is [remarkable] and the goals themselves are remarkable as well.

‘I’d like to show you all the scouting footage we had, the games we saw. The second goal: a goal like this was not involved. That shows what confidence does. It helps a lot. He is so physically strong. We needed pretty much of all of these goals. It’s just good that we have him.’
