Tottenham have seen an opening bid of €35million for Bordeuax forward Malcom rejected, according to reports.

The Brazilian has been in scintillating form for the Ligue 1 side this season, scoring seven goals, many of which have been spectacular, and adding a further four assists.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window, particularly with a return to Champions League action in mind and is also thought to be monitoring Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, who Roy Hodgson insists is not for sale.

Brazilian outlet Universo Online claims Spurs have seen an initial offer knocked back but that is unlikely to dissuade the Premier League club from bidding again, while Manchester United are also expected to formally enter the race.

Jose Mourinho is also desperate to strengthen his options out wide, particularly with Henrikh Mkhitaryan having fallen out of favour in recent months.

The United manager is still said to be annoyed at his club’s failure to sign Ivan Perisic in the summer and Goal reported earlier this week that Mourinho was already concerned that Ed Woodward would refuse to meet Bordeaux’s valuation of the player, which is said to be in the region of £55m.

United are happy to allow Malcom to remain at Bordeaux for the remainder of the season, but Mourinho would like an agreement to be struck sooner, rather than later.
