Carlo Ancelotti is in the process of moving back to London and is keen on taking charge of Chelsea again, but only once current manager Antonio Conte has left.

Speculation has been rampant that Conte could leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, having refused a contract extension and fallen out with the club’s board.

The champions started the campaign in poor form, leading to reports he could be axed even sooner, though he has got them back playing superb football again.

Ancelotti was one of several names muted as a replacement, and now The Sun report that the former Bayern Munich boss is returning to the capital.

He cleared out his apartment in Germany this week and is shipping all his possessions to London, having kept the home he lived in during his spell in charge of Chelsea between 2009 and 2011.

The Italian is keen to return to management, particularly in the Premier League, and would come back to Chelsea – but only once his friend Conte has left.

With reports linking Conte with AC Milan and the Italian national team, Ancelotti may not have to wait very long before he gets a call from Roman Abramovich.

Ancelotti did the double in the 2009/10 season, but was sacked by Chelsea the following year after ending the campaign trophyless.

Chelsea will not be the only club alerted to Ancelotti’s move back to England, and he could be a potential replacement for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger when he eventually leaves.

Tottenham, meanwhile, could face a fight to keep Mauricio Pochettino out of the clutches of Real Madrid and Ancelotti would be an ideal replacement should Los Blancos get their man.
