Thiago Silva seems confident Philippe Coutinho will soon be a Paris Saint-Germain player and thinks the deal could go through as soon as January.

The PSG defender is the international team-mate of Liverpool star Coutinho and admitted he is in regular contact with the playmaker.

And Silva revealed the topic of conversation is often about Coutinho joining him and his fellow Brazil internationals in Paris.

Neymar, Dani Alves and Marquinhos all play for PSG and Silva urged Coutinho to become the latest South American to join the growing Brazilian contingent.

‘I talk a lot with Coutinho. I hope that at the end of the season or even before, it could be a nice surprise for us,’ he told Telefoot.

‘I hope he will think well and that next year he will work with us.

‘As with Neymar, I give him a lot of advice. But I think the most important thing for him is to make the best decision.’

Coutinho was close to joining Barcelona last summer, but Liverpool were steadfast in their objection and rejected three bids for their star man.

Liverpool never had any intention of selling Coutinho, but that did not stop the attacker from refusing to play and issuing a transfer request.

Coutinho has re-settled at Anfield and has been playing brilliantly for his team in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old insisted before the Southampton win, in which he scored and made a goal, that he owed a lot to Liverpool.

‘I’ve grown immensely since I’ve been here,’ Coutinho told Goal.com.

‘I have become stronger here in every way. Every year, I’ve felt like I’ve taken more on and become better, more complete and mentally prepared, not only with football but life in general.

‘I have never wanted to settle because I know that improvement is something that doesn’t stop.

‘There are always new things you can pick up and many ways to develop. I’m happy with how much I’ve grown, but I’m not finished yet.

‘When I arrived, I had only been seen or thought of as a playmaker.

‘But I’ve had the opportunity to work with top professionals, real quality players, and under good managers, which has helped me understand the responsibilities of different positions and what each one requires.

‘I am used to and confident now in many areas of the pitch and it has made me more rounded. I don’t just attack better, I defend better too.’
