Liverpool are set to battle Premier League rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Wales midfielder David Brooks, according to the Daily Mirror.

Brooks, who spent a decade at Manchester City youth’s system before joining Sheffield United in 2014, has become a key player for the Blades, playing 17 games for the Championship club this term.

The 20-year-old’s performances have attracted the attention of a number of top-flight clubs but it is claimed Liverpool and Spurs are leading the race to sign the £20million-rated star ahead of the January transfer window.

Brooks made his full Wales debut during the recent international break, coming off the bench in the defeat to France before earning the Man of the Match award in the 1-1 draw with Panama.

Having signed a four-year deal with Sheffield United, the club will be in a strong position to rebuff Premier League interest but the Blades will struggle to turn down a substantial offer.

Winning 12 of their 17 league games this season, United are currently second in the Championship, two points below leaders Wolves.
