Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly hopeful that Luke Shaw can turn his career around at Old Trafford and will not be sold in the January transfer window.

Shaw’s made just two appearances so far this season and has made the bench for just one Premier League game.

The 22-year-old’s featured in just 20 matches since Mourinho was appointment in 2016 and he’s out of contract at the end of the season.

United are likely to trigger a 12-month extension clause in Shaw’s contract but he’s attracting interest from rival Premier League clubs – including Arsenal – in January.

The likes of Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are all ahead of Shaw in the pecking order but Mourinho believes he can turn it around, according to the Guardian.

Shaw will be given the remainder of the season to prove his worth to the club and he will not be sold on the cheap in January.

The former Southampton man could make the bench for Saturday’s clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba, sidelined for three months with a hamstring strain, could also feature.
