Jose Mourinho says he is not surprised by the reports of unrest at Chelsea, saying such talk comes with the territory of a big club after a defeat.
The Blues lost 3-0 in midweek to Roma in the Champions League, since which there have been numerous reports of problems behind the scenes.
Among them were suggestions that Antonio Conte had a falling out with David Luiz – with the defender subsequently dropped for Sunday’s game with Manchester United. Conte has since claimed that decision was nothing more than tactical.
Mourinho said a defeat always brings such reports – just as he experienced at Manchester United earlier this season after they fell to a shock defeat to Huddersfield.
‘This is what happens in big clubs and big teams. When you have one bad result you know, I mentioned, it’s always big,’ he told Sky Sports ahead of his side’s game at Stamford Bridge.
‘People who work in big clubs – players, coaches – they are used to it and they know how to react and how to cope with the pressure.’
He continued: ‘That’s what we did when lost against Huddersfield. After we lost against Huddersfield we had matches to play and to get results and we managed to get that.
‘So I don’t think Chelsea at all affected by that defeat in Rome. I think they come with max potential to have the result they want.’
