Jose Mourinho was impressed with Mile Svilar during Manchester United’s Champions League games with Benfica and has told the Portuguese club that he is keeping an eye on the young goalkeeper, according to reports.

The 18-year-old made a mistake which cost Benfica the game against United in Lisbon as he carried the ball over the line from Marcus Rashford’s free-kick.

In the 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford, Svilar scored an own goal but he was also able to save Anthony Martial’s penalty in the first half.

And Correio da Manha reports that Mourinho spoke highly of Svilar to Benfica’s president Luis Filipe Vieira and the United’s manager’s good relationship with the Portuguese club could result in a future transfer.

The report also claims that Svilar received glowing praise from United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who also spoke to Vieira after the match.

Speaking after United’s win in Lisbon last month, Mourinho praised Svilar despite his costly error.

‘He has some qualities, that’s not it, he is a phenomenon, he is amazing,’ said the United manager.

Svilar was signed by Benfica from Anderlecht in the summer and was handed the No.1 shirt.

United already have a positive relationship with Benfica after paying £31 million to sign Victor Lindelof in July.
